Posting More Isn’t Growing Your Email List (Here’s Why)

Why Posting More Isn’t Growing Your Email List

Here’s the truth… posting more content doesn’t automatically grow your list.

And because of that, many entrepreneurs stay stuck in a cycle where they create more… but don’t actually expand.

You keep showing up, but you keep reaching the same people.

So instead of growing your list, you repeat exposure… which keeps your results flat.

What Actually Happens When You Rely on Content Alone

Now here’s what actually happens behind the scenes…

Most platforms show your content to people who already follow you or engage with you.

So while you stay visible, you don’t reach enough new people to grow.

And because of that, your content supports your current audience… but doesn’t bring in new subscribers.

Posting More Isn’t Growing Your Email List Because You Need New Audiences

This is the shift most people miss…

Content helps you nurture.
But it doesn’t scale your reach on its own.

So if you rely only on posting, you stay in the same audience pool.

And because of that, your list growth slows down… no matter how consistent you are.

The Difference Between Exposure and Expansion

Here’s where things change…

Repeating exposure means the same people see you again and again.

But expansion means new people discover you for the first time.

And because of that, expansion drives growth… not repetition.

So if your strategy doesn’t include reaching new audiences, your list won’t grow the way you want.

What Actually Grows Your Email List

So instead of focusing on posting more, shift your focus to growth strategies that expand your reach.

This is where collaborations, bundles, and virtual events come in.

Because these strategies put you in front of new audiences… not just your existing one.

And because of that, your visibility grows… your audience expands… and your list starts to move.

How To Shift Out of the “Post More” Trap

So what do you do next?

Start thinking beyond content.

Look for opportunities where you can show up in other people’s spaces… connect with new audiences… and create deeper visibility.

And because of that, your content finally has somewhere new to land.

That’s when growth starts to feel easier… and more consistent.

Julie [00:00:00]:
Foreign. Hey there. Welcome back. I’ve got, like, my cutie puppy dog on my lap. She wants cuddles and I wish you could see her, but she’s so cute. Okay, so I want to talk about why your email list isn’t growing even if you’re posting consistently on the Facebook, on the YouTube, on the Instagram, on the Pinterest. God. God, for God knows, I tried Pinterest for so long and it was never convert for me.

Julie [00:00:40]:
Finally, I called it quits. I called it quits. I broke up with Instagram, I broke up with Pinterest. I never really got into YouTube, but. But the biggest misconception is thinking that more content equals more growth. It’s just not the way it works, thankfully, right? Like, if you’re listening to this and you’re like, oh, thank be God. Right? Like, thank you, God. Content mostly reaches the same fraking people anyways, right? Like, you know how the algorithm works, right? It’s the same people who see your content all the time.

Julie [00:01:29]:
The same people. The same, like, you know, 5% of your following or whatever the, the, the stats are nowadays. Who knows? But I know that for me, Instagram never converted into con clients same either. Neither did Facebook. Honestly. Like, my sales, they come from my email list. So now here’s what you might be doing. Your posts, your reels, your content, they’re being seen by people who already follow you, probably your friends and family.

Julie [00:02:01]:
So even if you’re posting every single day, you’re not actually increasing reach. You’re repeating exposure. Now, I’m going to say there are some niches that this is totally false. Because if you’ve been in my world for a little bit, you know that I love sewing, I love crochet, and I love now new to me weaving. And for some reason, maker profiles go gangbusters. Like, I swear to God, I, like, share one bag that I made and I shared it with the. The designer of the fabric, and I share it with the, the, the pattern. All of a sudden, I’ve got like 12,000 views.

Julie [00:02:55]:
It’s insane. And I’m like, this is wild. But that’s like, in the creative industry, the growth is exponential. It’s like, next level. I can’t even. But whenever I was trying to, like, grow my, you know, virtual summit coach business, it just wasn’t doing anything. And it was always the same people who were watching my stories would most my friends who don’t even have, you know, their own businesses. And I just finally, I’m like, this is ridiculous.

Julie [00:03:30]:
I Give up. So I’ve decided to put all of my efforts into growing my email list and now my new school community. So growth requires eyeballs. And I don’t care what anybody says about how you don’t need a big list. I wholeheartedly disagree. We need to be in front of new people consistently. It’s a numbers game. Again, there’s probably, you know, some exceptions, but I really do believe that we need to be in front of new people all the time consistently.

Julie [00:04:14]:
And email is. Growth comes from new people entering our world, not the same people seeing you over and over again and not buying anything from you because they already have or they don’t need it. We need new people. We need new people all the time. So it should be your goal to grow your email list by 1000 or 2000 this year. It should be the fastest. Growth comes from leverage. Like I say this all the time.

Julie [00:04:45]:
Your net worth is in your network, right? It truly, really, truly is. And honestly, like, when I do the stats, when I collect the data from my, you know, because I’m a nerd, like that. It really is true. And I know that about 40, 45% of my income comes as a direct result from people joining my event from other people’s audiences. That’s almost half of my income, okay? That is the power of collaboration. Now, a quarter of that comes from me being in events. 75% of the income coming into my business is as a direct effort of collaborations. That’s insanity.
Julie [00:05:46]:
Numbers. Okay, think about that. If I did not participate in anything, if I didn’t not host my own, where would that 75% be coming from? Think about that for a minute. So the fastest growth comes from leverage. Instead of relying on only content, which a lot of us do, and a lot of us, like, that’s what we’ve been taught to do, right? Post more, you know, like, lead in with stories and all this, you know, nonsense. You want access to other audiences. This is the power. And that’s why bundles work.

Julie [00:06:33]:
That’s why summits work. That’s why all the other kinds of collaborations work, because you’re stepping into rooms that already exist. Now, there’s a science behind all of this. Also, like, you don’t want to just join events because you’re joining events. Like, make sure that they’re your people, right? That’s a given. Like, if you’re doing a freebie swap, don’t do a freebie swap with someone whose audience has nothing to do with your thing, right? Like, that’s just like common sense or not, if you didn’t know that, right? Be super. Permission to be super selfish when it comes to that. And only joining events that have your audience in their audience.

Julie [00:07:21]:
Like makes sense. Like don’t participate in my bundle just because my bundle is cool and I’m cool. Make sure that my audience is also your audience or there’s at least an overlap, right? But I’m going to say this content still matters, just not for growth. Content is for nurturing. Content is for trust. Content is also for conversion. Hey, I do a weekly blog post for Google to satisfy the Google engines, right? It’s good for SEO and also it’s good for my emails, it’s good for my school community for sharing and all across different platforms. It’s good, it’s good content, right? But it’s not your main growth strategy.

Julie [00:08:13]:
So if your list feels stuck, right? If you’ve been trying to grow your list and it’s just not moving and you are realizing it’s not a content problem, it’s a visibility problem, then this is exactly the kind of thing I help people work through. If you want to start shifting this in your own business, you have to come hang out with us inside my fruit, my free community on school. Juliecbutler.com/school. And I’m realizing now that I didn’t even tell you what the name is. It’s the event and collaboration growth company. Just a super cool name too, right? Come and join us. That’s where we talk about this in a much more real, practical way and we can continue the conversation. It’s.

Julie [00:09:04]:
It’s not just one sided, like me talking to you, right? Like we can actually have a conversation about it and do what feels right for you. And if you are at the point where you’re like, okay, I don’t just want ideas, I actually want to build this properly. Truly, that’s exactly what I help with inside the Virtual Summit Success Lab. Okay, that’s another short and sweet episode. I’m on a roll. Okay, so I’ll talk to you in the next episode.
